Lost baggage

Delayed or lost baggage

Don’t worry, over 95 percent of all lost baggage is found and delivered to you within the first five days after you’ve reported it. A delay of your baggage must be reported in writing within 21 days. Fill out a so-called PIR (Property Irregularity Report) in the arrival hall at the baggage claim desk (Lost and Found).

Damaged baggage

Damage on your baggage must be reported immediately, but no later than 7 days after receiving it. The best course of action is to report it while you are still at the airport. If you report it immediately when you are at the airport, the airline can take care of your claim faster and more efficiently.

Baggage insurance

If you’ve purchased baggage insurance, contact the insurance company immediately with your receipt. You will need to give a detailed description of your luggage. Photos of the most common types of suitcases and bags will help. For locked suitcases you will be asked for the key or combination of the lock in case of possible customs inspection.

Compensation ideally happens within 30 days after reporting the loss.

A flat rate will be paid in accordance with the Montreal Convention. Regardless of the actual damage 1,350 EUR will be paid out in case of damage, destruction, loss or delay of checked baggage.

Emergency purchases

If your baggage is delayed, you can make emergency purchases. However, you should inquire through the airline first what exactly is included. Whether you purchase a toothbrush or underwear, always keep the receipts for such emergency purchases to be able to document the expenses.
